Summary

Dr. Nayak completed her educational training in different corners of India. She was first introduced to the amazing field of research in 2008 as part of her master's degree dissertation project, and there has been no going back since then. She was trained by Dr. Arijit Mukhopadhyay at the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB, New Delhi, India) where she studied the molecular genetics of Indian Haemophilia A carriers and Noelin genes in human glaucoma. She later joined his group as a project fellow in 2009 to study comparative genomics of non-coding RNAs. In 2012, she enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS, New Delhi, India) where she did her doctoral research on clustered microRNAs in human brain tumors in Dr. Chitra Sarkar’s lab in collaboration with IGIB. For post-doctoral training, she joined Dr. Morasso’s lab at NIAMS in December 2017 as a visiting fellow to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms central to skin differentiation.

Research Statement

Dr. Nayak's current research involves deciphering the epigenetic modules that govern the process of skin epidermal differentiation. She utilizes an integrative multi-omics approach to get an unbiased view of the mechanisms involved, followed by knock-out mouse models to establish causality.
