Jon completed his B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Michigan in 2023 while also earning a minor in Gender and Health. Jon’s research experience includes a long-term research assistant position in the Division of Rheumatology at Michigan Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Michelle Kahlenberg. During this time, Jon participated in basic science research to investigate the pathogenesis of cutaneous lupus. He studied the innate immune pathway driving interferon production in keratinocytes and the effect of ultraviolet light exposure on interferon responses. In his final year at the University of Michigan, he completed an honors thesis based on this research.

Currently, Jon is a post-baccalaureate research fellow in Dr. Andrew Mammen’s Lab. In this role, he investigates how myositis autoantibodies drive unique transcriptomic features in human skeletal muscle and how this may reveal the pathogenic mechanisms in autoimmune myopathies.
