Summary
Justin Shayne, B.S., received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, graduating summa cum laude with honors in biology and minors in chemistry, neuroscience, and psychology. He is a current postbaccalaureate fellow in the Molecular Immunology and Inflammation branch at the NIAMS and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in a related field.
During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Shayne was a research member of laboratories in the Department of Immunology and Department of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. His past experience also includes a research fellowship with the Mayo Clinic Department of Immunology.
Research Statement
Much of Mr. Shayne's past research has been focused on cancer immunology, from analyzing antitumor, antigen-based vaccines to exploring gene programs associated with improved T cell migration and infiltration. He has also spent time working on Alzheimer's Disease and the role that Tau protein accumulation plays in neuronal processes.
Currently, he is exploring Type 2 cytokine immune responses in the context of allergy and asthma. His research will investigate the differential regulation of the type 2 cytokine loci by T cells and innate lymphoid cells, using a variety of single cell techniques to analyze differences in chromatin and genome architecture.
