In 2023, Patrick Hallaert graduated with first-class honors from McGill University with a B.S. in biology. Before joining the NIH, his research focused on identifying ablated kinases that may curb drug resistance in lung adenocarcinoma.
Patrick has also participated in molecular biology research – where he explored a novel class of vesicles as a potential vehicle for precise macromolecule delivery into cells – and bioinformatics, where he employed Python and R to create a functional annotation database.
Research Statement
Patrick Hallaert’s research explores both Merkel cell carcinoma and Merkel cell development. He studies the biological mechanisms that underlie Merkel cell differentiation, and has also worked on elucidating how racial and ethnic disparities impacts Merkel cell carcinoma prognosis. Patrick also explores how spontaneous regression of Merkel cell carcinomas may be prompted by clonal T cell expansion.
