Summary

Dr. Helmold Hait received her Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences/Genetics in 2014 at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where she studied polymorphisms and expression of the Alpha4 Beta7 integrin in HIV (PLWH) positive people at various stages of AIDS disease. During her postdoctoral training at the NCI's Vaccine Branch (2015-2020), she studied T cell and B cell maturation and function during HIV vaccination and infection with SHIV. During her Research Fellowship at the Vaccine Research Center/NIAID (2020-2023), she investigated the mechanism of CD4 T cell activation and the effect of broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV in SHIV-infected Rhesus Macaques and PLWH. In 2023, she joined the NIAMS Translational Immunology Section (TIS) where she supports clinical studies by providing advice and conducting experiments involving cellular immunophenotyping and p-STAT phospho-flow assays using samples from patients with different inflammatory diseases.

Research Statement

Currently, Dr. Helmold Hait's research focuses on the JAK/STAT signaling pathway and the characterization of immune cell dysregulation in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases using flow cytometry.
