Summary

Dr. Sarfaraz Hasni joined NIAMS in 2009 after completing his fellowship training in Clinical Rheumatology from State University of New York at Stony Brook. After joining NIAMS he completed the NIH-Duke Masters in Clinical Research Program. His research interest in lupus is focused on new biomarker discovery and early phase proof of concept clinical trials.

He has established a collaborative network of rheumatologists, nephrologists, physiatrists and other health care providers interested in lupus clinical research in the Metropolitan DC area called DC Lupus Consortium.

Dr. Hasni is also an active clinician and core faculty of the rheumatology fellowship training program at NIAMS. He has initiated several quality improvement processes to provide excellent clinical care to patients with lupus per the current international guidelines.

In 2021, Dr. Hasni received the William G. Coleman Jr., Ph.D., Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Innovation Award for his project Increased Minority Participation in Clinical Research Through Peer–Peer Mentoring Approach which aims to bolster the participation and representation of racial/ethnic minority groups in clinical research of systemic lupus erythematosus.
