Taylor Talley, B.S.

Postbaccalaureate Fellow

Lymphocyte Signaling Unit

Summary

Taylor Talley completed her Bachelor of Science in May 2022 at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, focusing her studies on biochemistry.

During Taylor’s time at Spelman College, she was a resident advisor for freshmen and upperclassmen in the residence halls. She facilitated many programs to encourage healthy relationships among peers. Taylor also was involved in many on-campus organizations, most notably, The Spelman College Chemistry Club and Spelman Sisters of STEM. Under her guidance and leadership, these organizations cultivated a vibrant science community. Taylor was named a Chemistry and Biochemistry Scholar within the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. Additionally, she received a Research Initiation Award as a result of academic achievement and promise as a future scientist.

Taylor spent two summers at MIT completing research in a polymer chemistry lab under Dr. Jeremiah Johnson. She synthesized a polymer metal-organic cage (polyMOC) hybrid and enhanced its tunable properties. Additionally, she developed a bottlebrush polymer that mimics antigen presentation for usage in cancer vaccines.

Before graduating from Spelman College, Taylor became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She plans to continue her academic and research endeavors by pursuing her M.D./Ph.D. after her post-baccalaureate fellowship at the NIH.

Research Statement

Taylor is interested in understanding glycosphingolipids and their involvement in regulating the differentiation, activation, and response of CD4/CD8 T-cells in immune response.
