We are delighted to announce that Sarfaraz Hasni, M.D., Director of the NIAMS Lupus Clinical Trials Unit, has received the 2021 William G. Coleman Jr., Ph.D., Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Innovation Award. This competitive program is designed to support one-year innovative research projects contributed by postdoctoral fellows, staff scientists, and staff clinicians within the NIH Intramural Research Program that have the potential for high impact in minority health and health disparities research.

Dr. Hasni's project, "Increased Minority Participation in Clinical Research Through Peer–Peer Mentoring Approach," aims to bolster the participation and representation of racial/ethnic minority groups in clinical research of systemic lupus erythematosus.
